The 2011 Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose Run – One Life, One Rose Program was pre-saged with the following article in The Catholic Spirit, newspaper of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston:
WEST VIRGINIA – The Knights of Columbus of West Virginia will participate in a North American effort paying special tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas, through the Silver Rose Program. This program involves running a Silver Rose from Ontario, Canada, through the U.S. to Monterrey, Mexico.
The West Virginia Knights are also inviting parishes in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston to participate in the program by hosting the Silver Rose this summer as it travels across West Virginia.
The Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose Program began in 1960 as a project of the Knights of Columbus to honor Mary under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas. The program has expanded with three roses traveling from London, Ontario, through the United States and into Monterrey arriving at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe Dec. 12, the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
In the 2011 Silver Rose Run, starting in May, three roses will travel simultaneously through 31 jurisdictions and Mexico. During this year, there will be three roses traveling simultaneously starting in London, Ontario, and then moving to the West Coast, central United States and the East Coast. All three roses will meet at the same time in Texas to travel over the International Bridge and be handed over to Knights from Monterrey.
The state of West Virginia will receive the Silver Rose July 3 from Pennsylvania and present it to Maryland July 24.
The Knights of Columbus wish to have as many parishes as possible participate in the 2011 Silver Rose Program as it travels through West Virginia for three weeks in July.
